A close game between Russell Capel of
the Drivers and Nigel Clarke of the
Royal Rollers, with Capel holding the
lead until his fifth hand when he failed
to score, allowing Clarke to go in front
by 3. Capel pulled out an 8 to finish
and Clarke failed to score so lost by 5.
Ken Midwinter of the Robins (2) had the
edge against Rob Miller of the Young
Ones, tapping along flooring a few more
pins along the way. With Miller
failing to score on his last hand,
Midwinter had the game in the bag - a
good job as he only managed to floor a
2. Midwinter going through 37 to 31.
Steve Bartrick of the Could Be's had the
advantage over Darren Johnson of the
Shadows (2) until the fourth hand when
he could only manage a 3, allowing
Johnson to catch up going in all square
into the last hand. A 2 from Bartrick
left Johnson needing 4 to win - he
floored a 9 to win comfortably 35 to 29.
Stan Smith of Legion B B/C (2) had the
edge over Roger Hope of Cheltenham
Allsorts through to the fifth hand, when
Hope floored an 8 to bring him back into
touch. Smith answered the call with a
6 and they were all level going into the
last. Hope managed a 3 to finish
letting Smith ease by with 5 pins to
spare - Smith going through to the next
round 34 to 29.
Phil Roberts of the Steamers and Mike
Ledeux of the Sundowners (2) were pretty
evenly matched right through to
the fifth hand when they went all level
and all to play for in the last.
Roberts floored an 8 leaving Ledeux all
to do. Too big a task for Ledeux who
only managed a 4 in reply going out of
the competition 29 to 33.
Clive Little the 2004 Champion kept in
front as Malcolm Butler of Whaddon Old
Boys (2) struggled to find the front.
A last go rally by Butler helped, but
the damage had already been done and
Little went through 32 to 26.
Tim Masling of the Rebels stormed
through to the fifth against Kev Davison
of the Travellers when he could only
manage a 3, but Davison failed to take
advantage and failed to score facing an
uphill struggle to keep anywhere near.
Masling's 8 to finish took him through
41 to 26.
Sue Westbury of Beavers (2) held the
front throughout against Linda Burke of
Whitbread Wheelers, knowing she was
through to the next round before her
final throw - going through 35 to 27.
Gail Clarke of the black & White (2)
failed to find the front against Pearl
Mosson of the Corn Dollies and had it
all to do at the end to not avail and
went out of the competition 17 to 26.
A Beaver to start by Jo Jones of the
Merrymaids (2) meant She trailed from
the start against Sonny Davis of the
Black & White, but she kept tapping and
there were only 4 pins between them
going into the last. Davis could only
finish with a 3, giving Jones the chance
she needed, she floored an 8 to go
through to the next round 34 to 33.
Despite failed to score with her first
Lyn Taylor of Ladies Auxiliary was the
stronger throughout against Sarah Powell
of Parklands Ladies (2), finishing with
a good 7 and a 14 pin cushion as Powell
stepped up to bowl. Taylor going
through 33 to 25.
Tremendous game by Sharon Keeler 2004
Champion against Pat Green of the
Wheatsheaf (2) who finished on 49
without a spare - top score of the
night. Green struggled and ended up
going out of the competition 27 to 49.

Please return to Hon. Secretary, Charmian
Sheppard, 191 Alstone Lane, Cheltenham as soon
as is possible – they need to be professionally
cleaned, repaired and then engraved ready for
the presentation dance in June – so please let
us have them back by the end of the Season.
Thank You.

It is therefore important that we know the
following:
Number of games played and Seasonal Average
Please, could you therefore let me have the
information outlined below, as soon as
possible.
We admit this will be rather unscientific,
insomuch as the player with the highest
average will be ‘it’ but we felt it was
important to encourage our younger players.
Finally, a reminder that if they still
remain under 18, we do need that separate
form completed for the forthcoming season –
available on the web, or from my porch.

The website is having
to change its host provider as Orange have decided
to close the service in early in 2008 that we
have been using since our site went live
some 4 years ago. The outcome is that those of you
that log on the old web address of
www.cheltenhamskittlesleague.freeserve.co.uk should
make a point of changing to
www.cheltenhamskittles.co.uk
The site may well
be unobtainable for a couple of days while the new
host provider and my new broadband provider get
their act together. The good thing is that we have
more space so will have opportunity to add
extra items to the site such as a much bigger photo
gallery and we are open to other suggestions.

Did
you know that the first reference to a skittle alley
in Cheltenham was in 1768 situated in Albion

complete its history and is looking for old fixture
books and team photographs from the 1950's or even
the 1940's as below, they will be returned after
being copied....so look in Grand dads cupboards and
